submit to NECTAR

We want to hear your voice. We want poems and stories from the back and bottom of your journal. We want the strange and unforgettable. We want traditional forms made new. We want you to step outside the page and experiment.

Selected poems and stories will be published in ISSUE FIVE of NECTAR on January 24.

Writers will receive a $10 reward for publication, or they may elect to donate their winnings to select charities, in which case NECTAR will DOUBLE the contribution!

submission guidelines
  • We especially encourage BIPOC and QT poets to submit — your work will take priority in our consideration. However, we welcome all work however you identify.

  • Simultaneous submissions welcome. Please notify us immediately of publication elsewhere (and congratulations in advance!)

  • Please submit only ONCE and to ONE GENRE per reading period.

  • You should receive a response within 4-6 weeks of submission. Please reach out if you have not heard back by then.

There is NO submission fee. You are welcome to submit, free-of-charge.

  • For a donation of at least $5.00 on ko-fi, we will provide feedback on your submission, or we can provide a response in less than 48 hours. (Note: we cannot provide both feedback AND and expedited response; it is one or the other).

We ask that you do not publish any accepted poems elsewhere before they appear in NECTAR. Upon acceptance, we own the rights to the accepted poems. All rights revert back to the author upon publication. If your poem is published elsewhere (e.g. chapbooks, anthologies) in the future, we kindly request that you credit NECTAR for initial publication (also let us know so we can give you a proper congratulations!).

  • Submit 1-3 previously unpublished poems, up to a maximum of 7 pages.

  • Please submit multiple poems in one document as a .pdf, .doc(x), or .rtf.

  • Submit 1 previously unpublished short story, up to a maximum of 3,000 words.

  • Please submit in one document as a .pdf, .doc(x), or .rtf.
